Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

1Does this software run on Windows?
Because they are written in Pick Basic, all of our applications run anywhere Pick/D3 will run. This includes most versions of Windows, numerous versions of Unix, and Linux including CentOS. Most of our customers use Windows at their registers, but use a Linux Server for its reliability.
We can also run in the Pick "native" multi-user mode on the Linux based D3, requiring absolutely nothing from Microsoft Corp.
2What equipment is required?
Turn-Key systems provided by DBMS Inc. all come with a latest generation i5 processor and 16 GB of RAM. Registers and/or workstations can be "dumb" terminals or PC's running Windows or even Macs. Just about anything will work as a register or workstation, although we prefer the Professional version of Windows 10, we are backwards compatible all the way back to Windows XP.
3Must I have a Network?
No! A network is not required for our stand-alone base system. However, we will provide you with everything you need to connect multiple registers to a local network and even multistore connectivity through the internet!
4How are barcode scanners/readers supported?
USB, Keyboard Wedge, Bluetooth, and serial interfaced scanners are supported through a connection to a register, terminal, or PC workstation. The most widely supported scanner line is the Honeywell Voyager series. They offer USB, keyboard wedge, serial and Bluetooth functionality.
5Can I use my existing equipment?
In one word... Yes! Most all equipment is supported by our applications. We support most Windows computers, routers, and modems. KEY-POS also supports most receipt printers, cash drawers, scanners and stripe readers. We also offer the option to back up to several different USB flash drives, an inexpensive, convenient, and efficient way to protect your data.

The KEY-POS Distributor Communications module currently has electronic communication capabilities for sending purchase orders, receiving invoices, inventory updates, catalog updates, promotions etc. with United Hardware, Orgill Inc., Ace Hardware, Blish-Mize, Do It Best, True Value, House Hasson, and Southern Hardware. Communications are in the works for Jensen Distribution Services and Monroe Hardware. KEY-POS also has universal catalog import utilities for all smaller distributors. Wholesalers are not identical in their offerings, so you should check with your distributor to see what information they make available electronically to their dealers.
7How much does it cost?
Complete "all-in-one unit" KEY-POS systems (hardware and software) start at $6,990.00. Additional registers and workstations cost between $1,750-$3,300. Additional equipment and software such as scanners, printers, pole displays, signature pads, etc. can also be purchased “a la carte” to add extra features or enhancements to existing equipment.
8How much do the support agreements cost and what do they include?
KEY-POS (including Distributor Communications) software support agreements starts at $175 for server only, + $10 for each additional user license per month and are mandatory. Home Office and Unit-to-Unit support fees are evaluated on a case by case basis depending on the needs of the end user. For these fees, telephone KEY-POS application support is provided at no extra charge. As they become available, typically 2 to 3 times a year, upgrades to the software are also provided at no extra charge to those who request them, provided their support contracts are current. Optional hardware service contracts are also available.
9How can I see a demonstration?
